We Pinned It: Hot Diggity Dog
“Dachsund” Sandwiches?
Did you know that over 25 million hot dogs are sold at baseball stadiums each year? Before they made their way to this country, evidence shows that sausages were served at coronations in Germany, back in the 13th century. By the late 1800s, here in the US, frankfurters and wieners eventually came to be served on rolls, possibly because the sausages were too hot to handle with bare hands. But, it was a NY Post cartoonist who coined the name “hot dog” when he couldn’t spell dachshund.
Variety is the spice of life
Purists like them plain (so do most kids!) but others love to smother their dogs in chili, sauerkraut, even sriracha! Whatever your preference, go ahead and grill ’em, boil ‘em, broil ‘em, pan fry ‘em or cook ‘em on a stick over a campfire! Get your hotdogs and get cookin’!
