Stacy Hanas is the Communications Coordinator at Seven Degrees Communications.  Within her role, Stacy is responsible for social media strategy, community management, and content creation. She is a member of MPIGNY and serves on the Marketing Communications Committee.  Stacy has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications Studies with a Concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Business from Stockton University.  While attending Stockton, Stacy co-found the Stockton Chapter of PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America).

My primary role in the events industry is: My primary role is to help event industry suppliers develop a strong social media strategy to generate results and execute that strategy. Content creation plays a strong part in this role as well.

Years in the events industry: Three and half years

To me, being an event hustler means: To me, a hustler means working hard to achieve a seamless experience for an attendee. The role of a hustler is a planner as well as an event industry supplier or a writer for an industry publication; they all work together. A hustler is someone determined to add value to events and make the attendee experience an unforgettable one. Whether you are planning the event, promoting an event or adding a valuable service as a band, a team builder, an event mobile app or a search venue platform, a hustler adds value to an attendee’s experience.

The top 2 most surprising things I’ve learned about the events industry since starting are: The first thing I noticed in the events industry was that everyone was connected in some way. Our client on the West Coast has similar contacts as the client on East Coast. The second thing I noticed was how everyone is willing to help one another. I am truly thankful for how kind everyone is and has been in this industry.

How did you get your start in the events industry? I met my boss, Jessica Levin, while working at the gym as a receptionist. She asked what I wanted to do for living and when I told her I couldn’t decide between marketing and event planning, she took me under her wing and recommended that joined MPI’s student membership. I did and joined the Marketing Communications Committee. I soon found that my passion for event marketing was obtainable.

My biggest event industry pet peeve is: When people underestimate the value that social media marketing brings to a brand as well as an event. If done correctly, social media can achieve media opportunities, create strong conversations among the event attendees, and be used to generate awareness for a brand or event.

“No such thing as TMI”

One thing that would really surprise people to learn about me is: I played the trombone for 9 years and was also in the marching band. I chose it because it was bigger than me in the fourth grade and I wanted to be different.

You can only keep 2 albums in your entire music collection -those albums would be: My Spotify playlist ranges from country to alternative rock and includes full albums from Bastille and Goo Goo Dolls so I will have to go with those two.

10yr old me thought I’d grow up to be: In the fifth grade I had the lead in the school play and was convinced that I was going to become an actress. I played a bully, had a very high-pitched voice and was not very intimidating…
